Everything You Need to Know

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?

Very fresh - and we mean that genuinely, not as a marketing line. Every bag is roasted to order, meaning your coffee goes into the roaster only after you place your order. In most cases it's roasted the same day it ships, with a maximum of 3–5 days between roast and despatch. By the time it reaches your door, it's typically under a week old - far fresher than anything sitting on a supermarket shelf for months.

✦   For best flavour, store your beans in an airtight container away from direct light and heat. Ground coffee is best used within 2 weeks of opening; whole beans within a month.

What's the difference between a blend and a single origin?

Single origin coffees come from one specific farm, region, or country - think Peru, Bali, or Colombia. They're prized for their distinct, traceable character. A Bali coffee tastes earthy and full-bodied; a Colombian might be bright and citrusy. Each cup tells you something about where it grew.

Blends combine beans from multiple origins, selected to complement each other. The goal is consistency and balance - a blend like our Guildmaster's is crafted to deliver the same rich, satisfying cup every single morning, regardless of seasonal variation in individual origins. Neither is better - it depends on whether you want adventure or reliability in your cup.

What's the difference between light, medium, and dark roast?

Roast level controls how the bean's natural sugars and oils are developed by heat:

  • Light roast - shorter roast time, preserves more of the bean's original character. Brighter, more acidic, often with floral or fruit notes. Higher caffeine.
  • Medium roast - the most popular choice. Balanced between origin character and roast flavour. Caramel, chocolate, and nutty notes are common.
  • Dark roast - longer roast develops bold, smoky, bitter-sweet flavours. Lower acidity, full body. The roast itself is more prominent than the origin.

✦   Not sure where to start? Our Best Sellers Sample Pack includes a range of roast levels so you can find your preference before committing to a full bag.

How should I store my coffee?

Coffee's enemies are air, moisture, light, and heat. To keep it at its best:

  • Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark cupboard
  • Don't refrigerate - condensation damages the beans
  • Use whole beans within 4 weeks of opening, ground coffee within 2 weeks
  • Our bags come with a one-way valve - this lets CO₂ escape after roasting without letting air in, keeping beans fresher for longer. You can reseal and use the bag itself for storage.

Can I buy a sample before committing to a full bag?

Absolutely - that's exactly what our sample packs are designed for. Rather than selling individual single-sample sachets, we've curated themed packs that let you explore a whole category at once. If you try the Best Sellers pack and fall in love with one particular coffee, you can then order that specific blend in a full 250g, 500g, or 1kg bag. It's the most sensible way to find your perfect cup.
